Don’t be discouraged when your crochet projects turn out looking different from how you want it to appear!
Here are some tips and techniques to create a more polished look for your crochet projects.
Using The Correct Gauge
Some crochet projects require exact measurements. For this, a gauge is indicated at the beginning of the pattern to have near or exact results as the finished project.
Using the recommended hook size and yarn weight, crochet the stitches and rows for your gauge and measure with a ruler or a tape measure.

Tension
Adjusting how the yarn pulls through our fingers and hooks can affect the tension of our stitches. Pulling too tightly on the yarn will result in smaller and tighter stitches, pulling too loosely will create the opposite effect.
Blocking
Blocking a crochet project requires the use of moisture to reveal the projects designs and shape. It creates a more finished look by softening and relaxing the yarn strands. It can also hide imperfections by molding your projects into shape.

A blocking board with grids and pins makes blocking crochet projects a breeze. In the absence of a blocking board, rubber mats, towels and sewing pins can also do the trick!
Using Starch or Glue
Using home made starch mixture or starch spray while blocking helps your projects better hold its shape and prevents unnecessary curling. Using a glue mixture will result in a stiffer project and can harden the yarn fibers.
Adding Edges or Borders
Adding simple edgings to your projects can help neaten and emphasize the shape of your project, creating a more finished look.
