How to Crochet a Necktie

The origin of the neck tie dates back to the 1600’s and were often worn by men. In the present time, neckties are also worn by women and as a part of a school or work uniform. They are also a fashion statement. Let’s create this simple and stylish neck tie!


MATERIALS

8 PLY / DK COTTON YARN (ANY COLOUR)

4 MM CROCHET HOOK

DARNING NEEDLE

SCISSORS


Begin by creating a slip knot and chaining 2.

ROW 1: Hook in 2 Single Crochets (SC) or Single Crochet Increase (SC INC) in the first Chain (CH). Turn your work.

ROW 2: CH 1, SC INC in every stitch in the row. Turn your work. Total Stitches: 4

ROW 3: CH 1, SC INC in the first stitch, SC in the next 2 stitches, SC INC in the last stitch (Photo 1). Turn your work. Total Stitches: 6

ROW 4: CH 1, SC INC in the first stitch, SC in the next 4 stitches, SC INC in the last stitch. Turn your work. Total Stitches: 8

ROW 5: CH 1, SC INC in the first stitch, SC in the next 6 stitches, SC INC in the last stitch. Turn your work. Total Stitches: 10

ROW 6 TO ROW 7: CH1, SC in every stitch in the row. Turn your work.

ROW 8: CH 1, SC INC in the first stitch, SC in the next 8 stitches, SC INC in the last stitch. Turn your work. Total Stitches: 12

ROW 9: CH 1, SC INC in the first stitch, SC in the next 10 stitches, SC INC in the last stitch (Photo 2). Turn your work. Total Stitches: 14

ROW 10: CH 1, SC in the next stitch, Single Crochet Two Together (SC2TOG), SC in the next 8 stitches, SC2TOG. Turn your work. Total Stitches: 12

ROW 11 TO ROW 38: SC in every stitch in the row (Photo 3). Turn your work.

ROW 40 TO ROW 67: CH 1, SC in every stitch in the row (Photo 4). Turn your work. Total Stitches: 10

ROW 68: CH 1, SC in the first stitch, SC2TOG, SC in the next 4 stitches, SC2TOG. Turn your work. Total Stitches: 8

ROW 69 TO ROW 96: CH 1, SC in every stitch in the row. Turn your work.

ROW 97: CH 1, SC in the first stitch, SC2TOG, SC in the next 2 stitches, SC2TOG, SC in the last stitch. Turn your work. Total Stitches: 6

ROW 98 TO ROW 217: CH 1, SC in every stitch in the row (Photo 5). Turn your work.

For a smoother edge: CH 1 and Slip Stitch (SL ST) around the tie. Fasten off and weave in any loose ends.
