The Double Crochet Stitch or DC is a tall stitch that creates a less dense fabric with a softer drape. It is one of the most commonly used stitches in creating crochet projects.

MATERIALS

Foundation Chain: Any number of stitches + 2

Begin by creating a slip knot and chain 12.

1. Yarn over, insert your hook into the 4rth chain from the hook and pull up a loop.

Yarn over and pull through 2 loops.

Yarn over and pull through the last 2 loops.

You have just completed your first Double Crochet!

2. * Yarn over and insert your hook into the next chain,

yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through 2 loops,

yarn over and pull through the last 2 loops.

Repeat * for every chain. Turn your work.

3. Chain 3 ( counts as the first stitch),

double crochet in the next stitch and in every stitch in the row. Turn your work.

4. Repeat Step 3 until you have reached the amount needed for your project.

The UK version of the double crochet stitch is called the Treble Crochet Stitch (TR). The Double Crochet Stitch is most commonly used in crocheting tops and sweaters.
