An interesting and cute character, Pirate Bear, is an easy crochet project you can make as an accessory or as a decorative element for your clothes and accessories.
MATERIALS
8 PLY / DK COTTON OR COTTON BLEND YARN
COLORS: LIGHT BROWN, BLACK, PINK, LIGHT CREAM
4 MM CROCHET HOOK

CREATING THE BEAR HEAD
Using your light brown yarn and 4 mm crochet hook, begin by creating a Slip Knot and chaining 10.
ROW 1: Single Crochet in the 2nd Chain ( CH ) from the hook and in the next 8 Chains ( CH ). Turn your work. Total Stitches: 9
ROW 2 to ROW 3: CH 1, Single Crochet ( SC ) in the next 9 stitches. Turn your work.
ROW 4: CH 1, Single Crochet Two Together ( SC2TOG ), SC in the next 5 stitches, SC2TOG. Turn your work. Total Stitches: 7
ROW 5: CH 1, SC in every stitch in the row. Turn your work.
ROW 6: CH 1, SC2TOG, SC in the next 3 stitches, SC2TOG. Turn your work. Total Stitches: 5
ROW 7: CH 2, 5 Half Double Crochet ( HDC ) in the same stitch, Slip Stitch ( SL ST ) in the next 4 stitches, CH 2, 5 HDC in the same stitch. Total Stitches: 15
SL ST in every stitch in the round and row. Fasten off and weave in any loose ends.

CREATING THE SNOUT
With your light cream yarn and 4 mm crochet hook, begin with a slip knot and CH 2.
ROUND 1: SC in the 2nd CH from the hook, 3 HDC in the same CH, SC in the same CH, SL ST in the same CH.
ROUND 2: SL ST in every stitch in the round. Fasten off leaving a tail long enough for sewing.
Take a black piece of scrap yarn and insert into your darning needle. Sew a horizontal line into the 1st CH several times. Fasten off and weave in any loose ends.
Sew the snout in Rows 2, 3 and 4 and in between stitches 4, 5 and 6, weaving in any loose ends.
CREATING THE EYE PATCH AND SMILEY EYE
Using your black yarn and 4 mm crochet hook, create a Magic Ring ( MR ).
ROUND 1: Hook in 4 SC inside the MR. Pull the ring close.
ROUND 2: SL ST in every stitch in the round. Fasten off and leave a 6 inch tail for sewing.
Position the eye patch in between Rows 4 and 5 and near the edge of the bear head, sew in a diagonal line in the top and bottom portion of the patch.
Insert your black yarn into the darning needle and sew the smiley eye in, by inserting your needle and yarn in Row 4 in between stitch number 3.
Create a horizontal line by reinserting into stitch number 2, pull the needle and yarn through. Reinsert into Row 5, in between the second and third stitches and insert your needle and yarn under the horizontal line and reinserting into the same point. Fasten off and weave in any loose ends.
CREATE THE ROSY CHEEKS
Using your pink yarn, sew horizontal lines in the cheek portion of the bear head weaving in any loose ends. Weave in any loose ends.
