Quick and Easy 30 minutes

  1. Combining Dry Ingredients

In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt and cornstarch. Whisk until fully combined.

  2. Forming the Dough

Gradually add water to the flour mixture, stirring until a dough forms. The dough should be smooth and pliable, and can be achieved by adding water if the the dough is too dry or adding flour when the dough is too wet and sticky.

  3. * Adding Food Coloring

Divide the dough into smaller portions and add a few drops of food coloring to the dough. Knead and mix until well combined. Continue until you have achieved the color you need for your project.

  4. Cutting Out the Shapes

On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thick. Using your cookie cutter or knife, cut out the desired shapes in your dough. If you intend to hang the ornaments, make a small hole near the top of each ornament for the ribbon or string to pass through.

  5. Baking the Ornaments / Decorative Pieces

Preheat the oven to 200°F. Transfer the ornaments carefully into a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Bake the ornaments for 2 to 3 hours, until they have completely dried and hardened. Check the ornaments once in a while and gradually lower the heat to prevent burning.

  6. Allowing the Decorative Pieces to Cool

Remove the ornaments and allow to cool before handling.

  7. Painting and Decorating the Ornaments / Decorative Pieces

Once the ornaments and decorative pieces have cooled, paint any design onto the ornaments using your acrylic paint and paintbrush. Allow to dry for an hour.

These ornaments are not edible and should be kept away from moisture. Enjoy getting creative with your project, add sparkle and other elements to elevate your creation!
