Crochet Top: The Summer Bandeau Top

Great for summer and beach getaways, the Summer Bandeau top is a stylish and trendy crochet top that is easy to create.

  • 4 MM CROCHET HOOK
  • 3 MM CROCHET HOOK
  • DARNING NEEDLE
  • SCISSORS

GAUGE

22 STS X 30 ROWS (10 X 10 CM)

Begin with a slip knot and chain (CH) 116, 124, 136, 146, 152, 160.

ROW 1

Single Crochet (SC) in the 2nd CH from the hook, * CH 1, skip the next CH, SC in the next CH. Repeat * 57, 61, 67, 69, 75, 79 times. Total SC Stitches: 58, 62, 68, 70, 76, 80

ROW 2

CH 1, skip the next stitch, * CH 1, skip the next stitch, SC in the next stitch. Repeat * 43, 48, 53, 58, 63, 68, 73 times, SC in the top of the turning CH. Total stitches: 45, 50, 55, 60, 65, 70, 75

ROW 3 TO ROW 22, 22, 24, 26, 28, 30

CH 1, skip the next stitch, * CH 1, skip the next stitch, SC in the next stitch. Repeat * 43, 48, 53, 58, 63, 68, 73 times, SC in the top of the turning CH. Total stitches: 45, 50, 55, 60, 65, 70, 75

Leave the yarn uncut and turn your top to the short end side of your bandeau top.

BORDER

ROW 1

CH 1, SC in the next 22, 22, 24, 26, 28, 30 stitches. Turn your work. Total stitches: 22, 22, 24, 26, 28, 30

ROW 2

CH 3, Double Crochet (DC) in the next 21, 21, 23, 25, 27, 29 stitches. Do not turn your work. Total stitches: 22, 22, 24, 26, 28, 30

ROW 3

CH 1, Single Crochet in the Back Loops Only (SCBLO) of the first DC stitch, SCBLO in the next 21, 21, 23, 25, 27, 29 stitches. Slip Stitch (SL ST) in the top of the turning CH. Do not turn your work. Total stitches: 22, 22, 24, 26, 28, 30

ROW 4

CH 3, skip the first stitch, Double Crochet in the Back Loops Only (DCBLO) of every stitch in the row. Do not turn your work. Total stitches: 22, 22, 24, 26, 28, 30

ROW 5

CH 1, Single Crochet in the Back Loops Only (SCBLO) of the first DC stitch, SCBLO in the next 21, 21 , 23, 25, 27, 29 stitches. Slip Stitch (SL ST) in the top of the turning CH. Do not turn your work. Total stitches: 22, 22, 24, 26, 28, 30

ROW 6

CH 3, skip the first stitch, Double Crochet in the Back Loops Only (DCBLO) of every stitch in the row. DO not turn your work. Total stitches: 22, 22, 24, 26, 28, 30

Fasten off leaving a tail long enough for sewing. Join your yarn into the other short end of your bandeau top and repeat the border pattern, leaving the yarn uncut on the other end. Continue to the edging of the top.

EDGING

CH 1, SC around the top. Fasten off and weave in any loose ends.

With the wrong side facing up, fold the border into the middle double crochet row and sew into place. Repeat for the other end of the top.


Let’s now create the tie for your top.

BANDEAU TOP TIE

With your 3 mm crochet hook, begin with a slip knot and CH 301, SS in the 2nd CH from the hook and in every CH. Fasten off.

Insert the tie inside the folded portion of the border. You can add more chains if you opt for a longer tie that you can style your bandeau top with.
