An intimidating creature, brought to life by Dr. Frankenstein, in the 1818 novel, Frankenstein or The Modern Prometheus, by Mary Shelley, Frankenstein’s Monster is misunderstood by many. Despite his appearance, the gargantuan creature, had a soft heart and yearned for acceptance.

The finished yarn version of Frankenstein’s monster measures 5 inches in height, let’s get started!

CREATING THE HEAD

Using your black yarn and 3.5 MM Crochet hook, create a Magic Ring (MR) and Chain (CH) 1.

ROUND 1: Hook in 4 Single Crochets (SC) inside the MR. Pull the ring close. Total Stitches: 4

ROUND 2: 3 Single Crochet Increase (3 SC INC) in every stitch in the round. Total Stitches: 12

ROUND 5: SIngle Crochet in the Back Loops Only (SC BLO) in every stitch in the round. Total Stitches: 28

ROUND 6: SC in every stitch in the round.

ROUND 7: SC in every stitch in the round, joining Yarn B in the last stitch.

ROUND 8: SC in the next 12 stitches, joining Yarn A in the last stitch, SC in the next 16 stitches, joining Yarn B in the last stitch. Total Stitches: 28

Insert the safety eyes on the face portion of the head, between Rounds 10 and 11 (Photo 2), counting 4 stitches from the hairline and spaced 6 stitches apart.

Insert fiberfill firmly onto the head of Frankenstein.

CREATING THE FIRST LEG

Rejoin your yarn into the middle part of the pants and join with a slip stitch on the 10th stitch.

ROUND 1: CH 1, SC in the next 10 stitches. Total Stitches: 10

ROUND 2: SC in the next 10 stitches, joining Yarn B in the last stitch.

ROUND 3: SC in every stitch in the round.

ROUND 4: INV SC DEC BLO 5 times. Total Stitches: 5

Fasten off and sew the opening closed, weaving in any loose ends.

Insert fiberfill into the body of Frankenstein firmly.

CREATING THE 2ND LEG

Join Yarn A onto the middle portion of ROUND 31 with a SL ST and CH 1.

ROUND 1: SC in the next 10 stitches. Total Stitches: 10

ROUND 2: SC in the next 10 stitches, joining Yarn B in the last stitch, SL ST in the next stitch and CH 1.

ROUND 3: SC in every stitch in the round.

ROUND 4: INV SC DEC BLO 5 times. Total Stitches: 5

Fasten off and sew the opening closed, weaving in any loose ends.
