INSECT: FLY AMIGURUMI

Winged insects widely considered as pests, flies are found in almost every environment and are also excellent pollinators, their larvae is also used in various medical treatments. They also make for tasty meals for frogs and other animals.


MATERIALS

  • 8 PLY/DK COTTON YARN
    • RED
    • GREEN
    • BLACK
  • LACE COTTON YARN
    • WHITE
  • 3 MM CROCHET HOOK
  • 4 MM CROCHET HOOK
  • FIBERFILL
  • DARNING NEEDLE
  • SCISSORS

EYES [2]

Using your red yarn, begin by creating a Magic Ring ( MR ), chain (CH) 1.

ROW 1

Hook in 6 Single Crochets (SC) inside the MR. —–[6]

ROWS 2 TO 3

SC in every stitch in the round.

Fasten off and leave a 5 inch tail for sewing.


BODY

Using your green yarn, create a MR and CH 1.

ROW 1

Hook in 5 SCS inside the MR. —–[5]

ROW 2

Hook in 2 SC (INC) inside the MR. —–[10]

ROW 3

SC in the next 2 stitches, * 2 SC in the next stitch, repeat * 5 times, SC in the next 3 stitches. —–[15]

ROWS 4 TO 5

SC in every stitch in the round.

ROW 6

 * Single crochet two together ( SC2TOG/DEC ), repeat * 4 times, SC in the next 4 stitches, DEC 2X. —–[10]

ROWS 7 TO 8

SC in every stitch in the round.

ROWS 9

DEC 5 times. —–[5]

Insert fiberfill into the body until firm. Fasten off and leave a 5 inch tail for sewing. Sew the opening closed and weave in any loose ends.


The back part of the fly is the rounded area and the belly area is the flat area of the body. Attach the eyes on the 9th row of the body, spacing them evenly apart and sew into place. Weave in any loose ends.



LEGS [2]

Join your black yarn on one side of the 7th row of the belly part of the fly.

ROW 1

CH 1, SC in the same stitch, working towards the 9th row, SC in the next 3 stitches. Turn your work.

ROW 2

* CH 3, Slip Stitch ( SS ) in the 2nd CH and in the next CH, SS in the next stitch. Repeat * 3 times. SS in the next stitch. Fasten off.

Repeat this pattern on the other side of the belly. Fasten off and weave in any loose ends.


WINGS [2]

Using your 3 mm crochet hook and white yarn, begin with a slip knot and CH 7.

Double crochet ( DC ) in the 4th CH from the hook, half double crochet ( HDC ) in the next 2 stitches, SC in the next 3 stitches.

Working on the bottom side, HDC in the next 2 stitches, DC in the next stitch, SS in the top of the beginning CH 3.

Fasten off and leave a 5 inch tail for sewing. Attach the wings between the 5th and 6th round of the pattern, spacing them a stitch apart. Weave in any loose ends.
