Let’s crochet our courageous keychain buddy, Roaring Fluff!


MATERIALS

WORSTED WEIGHT / MEDIUM WEIGHT YARN

COLORS: LIGHT BROWN, BLACK + CREAM

4 MM CROCHET HOOK

SAFETY EYES

DARNING NEEDLE

SCISSORS

KEYCHAIN

YARN A: LIGHT BROWN ; YARN B: BLACK

ROARING FLUFF FRONT + BACK

Using your 4 MM crochet hook and Yarn A, begin with a Slip Knot and Chain ( CH ) 7.

ROUND 1: Hook in 2 Single Crochets ( SC ) or Single Crochet Increase ( SC INC ) in the 2nd Ch from the hook, Half Double Crochet ( HDC ) in the same CH, Double Crochet ( DC ) in the next 4 CHS, HDC in the next CH, SC INC in the same CH, SC in the next 4 stitches. SL ST in the next stitch.

ROUND 2: CH 1, SC INC in the 1st stitch, HDC in the next stitch, 3 DC in the next stitch, DC in the next 4 stitches, 3 DC in the next stitch, HDC in the next stitch, SC INC in the next stitch, SC in the next 5 stitches. SL ST in the first stitch using Yarn B. Turn your work.

ROARING FLUFF’S MANE

With the wrong side facing up, and using Yarn B, follow this pattern:

ROUND 1: CH 2, 5 Half Double Crochet Popcorn ( HDC PC ) in the same stitch, CH 1, Half Double Crochet Increase ( HDC INC ) in the next stitch. * 6 HDC PC in the next stitch, CH 1, HDC INC in the next stitch. Repeat * 9 times. SL ST in the next stitch.

6 Half Double Crochet Popcorn ( 6 HDC PC ): * Yarn Over ( YO ) and insert your hook into the designated stitch and pull up a loop. YO and pull through all 3 loops on your hook. Repeat * 6 times. Remove your hook from the loop and insert your hook into the back of the first stitch and into the loop of the last stitch, and pull the loop through.

ROUND 2: CH 2, HDC on the top of the 6 HDC PC, *HDC INC in the next stitch, 6 HDC PC in the next stitch, CH 1. Repeat * 9 times. SL ST in the top of the Turning Chain ( TCH ). Fasten off and weave in any loose ends.

Create one more Roaring Fluff Back, this time leaving the yarn uncut.

ROARING FLUFF EARS (2)

Using Yarn B and your 4 MM crochet hook, create a Slip Knot and CH 3.

ROUND 1: SC in the 2nd CH from the hook, HDC in the same CH, 4 HDC in the next CH, SC in the next stitch. SL ST in the 1st stitch to join. Fasten off leaving a 4 inch tail for sewing.

PUTTING IT TOGETHER

With the right side facing up, turn Roaring Fluff’s front upside down. The narrow portion of the front is the top of the head.

Take the safety eyes and attach it in between the 1st DC stitch and the HDC stitch in the first round, spaced 3 DC stitches apart. Create the nose by sewing in 2 horizontal lines using your cream yarn in the middle DC stitch in between the eyes.

To create the mouth, insert your needle into the stitch below the nose line and reinsert underneath the nose strands. Repeat for the other mouth curve on the other side of the nose, weaving in any loose ends.

Take the back portion and match and align with front portion, with the wrong sides together. With the uncut yarn, join with a SL ST and CH 1. SC both sides of the front and back parts of Roaring Fluff together.

Work your way to the center of the top of Roaring Fluff’s head. Upon reaching the center part, fasten off and insert the yarn into the bottom of the keychain and SC in the next stitch. SC in the remaining stitches and spaces in the round. SL ST in the beginning CH to join. Fasten off and weave in any loose ends.

Position and sew the ears on top of Roaring Fluff’s mane in between Rounds 1 and 2 , positioning them 2 HDC PCs apart. Weave in any loose ends.
